In spite of an effort to control the limitless suburbanisation of the Netherlands by means of a Bill called Vinex (that only allows a limited amount of cities to expand in the direct proximity of their centers, the compact city idea) there’s still a lot of semi-illegal construction going on. About every little town spreads out into its surroundings. As fashion has dictated, much of the building production of the eighties and nineties has been realized in so-called Witte Breuksteen, a whitish concrete brick. This phenomenon is often revered to as White Fungus. At this moment a new plague has gotten a hold of the country. It’s called differentiation.
